2009 Volkswagen Golf GTI Pirelli Edition – Exhaust Smoke Diagnosis, SuperPro Suspension & Coilover Upgrades
This distinctive 2009 Volkswagen Golf GTI Pirelli Edition (Mk5) recently visited Kreskas Automotive in Croydon South for excessive exhaust smoke, mechanical diagnostics and suspension upgrades. As a special edition of the iconic Golf GTI, the Pirelli combines Volkswagen's turbocharged performance engineering with unique styling and enthusiast appeal. Despite the vehicle remaining driveable, the unusual exhaust smoke warranted a thorough investigation to identify potential air leaks, crankcase ventilation issues or other mechanical faults.

Rather than immediately replacing expensive engine components, we carried out a smoke test of the intake and associated vacuum system to identify any loss of sealing integrity. Our inspection uncovered perished O-rings around the engine oil dipstick assembly, along with a leaking vacuum pipe. Over time, rubber seals and plastic components deteriorate through heat, vibration and age, potentially creating air leaks that affect engine operation. Alongside these repairs, we also installed coilover suspension and SuperPro suspension components, improving suspension control, handling response and overall driving dynamics. The upgraded coilovers provide adjustable ride height and enhanced suspension characteristics, while SuperPro performance suspension components help reduce unwanted movement and improve steering precision. Together, these upgrades create a more responsive driving experience while retaining a practical setup suitable for everyday use.
